The NY Jets have arguably one of the toughest schedules in the NFL ahead of them this season. For starters, The AFC East is an absolute gauntlet. If you don’t believe that here is some food for thought.
The AFC Beast
The weakest team (on paper) according to most polls right now is The NE Patriots. According to Pro Football Network the Pats have the 5th best defense in the NFL and arguably the best head coach in NFL history, Bill Bellichick. I was confident last year that the Jets would finally knock them off and end the suffering but the Pats were able to sweep the and hammer in the final nail in the coffin of Zach Wilson’s career. I was actually at that piss fest last year up in Gillette stadium where the Pats had a walk-off punt return. I’ve seen chess matches more electric than that game. Worst sporting event of my life hands down.
Despite the hate that they get from some Sid the Sloth looking people in the Media, (Nick Wright) the Bills in my opinion are still a top 3 team in the AFC, behind the Chiefs #1 and the Bengals #2. Josh Allen is still a top three QB in the AFC, possibly the NFL, and I am not really buying the narrative that’s being pushed that there is turmoil in that locker room.
As For the Dolphins they have a top receiving core in the league no doubt about it. Mike Gesecki is a great TE and Waddle and Hill proved to be the dynamic 1 -2 punch that everyone thought they would be last year. The elephant in the room with this team is that their lefty QB is one hit away from his NFL Career being over and their back up is Mike White. No hate on Mike White, he brought me a lot of joy over the past two years, but I do not think they are competing in the AFC with him at the helm. Honestly I can not believe that they paid Tua this year and the best they did at back up was Mike White.
Predictions:
Week 1: Bills at Jets: W
For most of this schedule breakdown I am going in with the mind set that they will get better as the season goes on. I believe that if this team is going to reach their destiny, they ultimately have to hit their stride later into the season. Naturally, this team is going to have to adjust to a new QB and OC. With that being said this first game against the Bills is going to be a statement game. Both teams are pretty evenly matched, and are probably front runners for the AFC East, I’m going to give this one to the Jets. I don’t know what to expect yet from this offense and I do not think McDermott is a good enough coach to figure that out on the fly either.
Week 2: Jets at Cowboys: W
Let me be very clear. Dak Prescott sucks. This will be his last year as a starting NFL quarterback. Zach Martin, Dallas’s star O-Linemen, is already disgruntled with the offense and wants out, and I think our defense is flat out to good for their offense. Plus with the difficulty of our schedule this year, it’s crucial that we capitalize on teams like Dallas this year. No room for let downs.
Week 3: Patriots at Jets: L
This one was tough to put down. I want nothing more than to bury this team twice this year, but year after year the Pats prove to own us. At this point Woody Johnson should just call Bill Bellichick daddy. Do I think the Pats are competing for that top spot in the AFC East. No. But make no mistake, New England will be playing spoiler to someone in the AFC East. Hopefully not the Jets.
Week 4: Chiefs at Jets: L
Patrick Mahomes is the most athletic QB we have seen in the league. They just won the Superbowl during a “rebuild year” for their franchise. They have enough cap room to go out and be a better team this year. The Jets do have a team that can beat the Chiefs, but I do not think they will be ready to do it in Week 4.
Week 5: Jets at Broncos: W
If you have any Jets on your fantasy team start them this game. Sean Payton is coward for what he said about Nathaniel Hackett to the press. Yes, Nathaniel Hackett’s coaching job in Denver was a “Fyre Fest”. However, Payton critiquing his job after the man was already fired just goes to show that Payton has no confidence in his team and he is looking for a scapegoat because he doesn’t want his legacy to be tarnished after this season. Spineless move by Payton. If Rodgers shows up for one game this year it is going to be this one. He already said to the media that Payton should “keep my coaches name out of his mouth” and has expressed his admiration for Hackett. Hard Knocks gave us a close look on just how close these two actually are.
Week 6: Eagles at Jets: L
Don’t have a lot to say about this game. The Eagles are a great football team and besides from the Chiefs this will be probably the biggest test for our defense. This game will be a measuring stick for the Jets season going forward.
Week 8: Jets at Giants: W
Coming off a bye week hopefully our defense is looking fresh because talent wise, the Giants are mediocre. All of their success last year came from Brian Daboll, who I give a ton of respect to because no other coach is getting Danny Dimes to the playoffs. This game is a true “battle of the minds” and we have two weeks to prepare for it It. Just like Dallas this has to be a W.
Week 9: Chargers at Jets: W
I have no idea how the Chargers are going to be this year. They obviously have a very talented roster. For some reason they never seem to be able to have all their weapons on the field at once and their coaching in the past has not been what it needs to be in order to be a playoff team in the AFC. This is a primetime game and the Jets have so many of these games on their schedule this year. If they are going to have any success this year, primetime needs to be apart of their identity. That is why they are getting the W here.
Week 10: Jets at Raiders: W
This team just sucks. Good luck with Jimmy G over Derrick Carr.
Week 11: Jets at Bills: L
Just like last year I’m expecting two nail biting games from these teams. With that being said Buffalo is a tough place to win a game so I would take the home field advantage here.
Week 12: Dolphins at Jets: W
No one knows where Miami is going to be late into the season with all the questions concerning Tua’s health. With or without Tua I think the Jets are going to split the Dolphins. As a Jet fan, losing to Mike White will be the most Jets thing they can do so I am counting Miami as a split no matter what.
Week 13: Falcons at Jets: W
This should be an easy win for the Jets. Falcons are rebuilding right now and I don’t see Desmond Ridder being able to steal one off our defense.
Week 14: Texans at Jets: W
Poor CJ Stroud.
Week 15: Jets at Dolphins: L
(Read week 12).
Week 16: Comrades at Jets: W
Not a lot to say here. The rosters just do not match up. If the Jets don’t destroy the Commanders then something went very wrong this season.
Week 17: Jets at Browns: W
I refuse to buy into the fact that Deshaun Watson is turning it around this year. The pervert’s career is done. It is hard enough to be successful in the NFL without having the entire nation hate you. If he struggles even a little bit this year Cleveland’s fanbase is going to bury him. Plus, it is another primetime game for the Jets.
Week 18: Patriots at Jets: W
If this team has any heart they are going bury New England this game. Jets by 1000
Now I know 12-5 seems daunting, especially with the strength in our schedule but this is a super team. If they can stay healthy they will be a Super Bowl contender and with how tough the AFC is I don’t know if 10 wins gets you into the playoffs. I would love to see more schedule predictions so leave a comment on this post.
